⁣A compound sentence joins two or more sentences that have related ideas of equal importance. The two sentences go together. Each sentence or independent clause must still have a subject and a verb. For example: She wanted spinach salad; he wanted a hamburger.

⁣The three main verb tenses are the past, present, and future, but there are also four grammatical aspects: simple, continuous, perfect, and perfect continuous.

⁣Prefixes are letters which we add to the beginning of a word to make a new word with a different meaning. Prefixes can, for example, create a new word opposite in meaning to the word the prefix is attached to. They can also make a word negative or express relations of time, place or manner.

⁣Vocabulary (with definitions)
seed coat – covers and protects the seed.
embryo – forms the new plant.
endosperm – acts as food for the seed, and nourishes the embryo.
germinate – when a seed begins to grow, or puts out shoots.
cotyledon – the first “leaves” of a plant.
monocot – a plant with one cotyledon.
